American Airlines regional arm is called American Airlines (not to be confused with American Airlines Airlines) and is responsible for short-haul and medium- haul 'feeder' operations. Simmons Airlines was established in 1978 in Fort Worth, Texas.
American Airlines is partially owned by American Airlines. Six airlines operate flights operated by American Airlines: Mesa Airlines, Republic Airways, and SkyWest Airlines are contracted carriers; Envoy Air (formerly American Airlines Airlines), Piedmont Airlines, and PSA Airlines are fully owned subsidiaries. To provide a reliable and consistent service, all operators will fully comply with American Airlines' criteria.

The American Airlines Baggage Policy
The American Airlines flights are guided by the luggage allowance rules of the American Airlines but there are some slight changes that depend on the carriers and the route you are travelling in.
Carry-on Baggage:
At all locations, one free carry-on bag along with an item is admitted.
A pocketbook or tiny handbag that fits beneath the seat in front of you may be included in your personal belongings. The maximum dimensions of the personal object are 45 x 35 x 20 cm.
Your free carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead locker and not exceed 56 x 36 x 23 cm.
Baggage checked:
The size and weight of a checked luggage are limited to 157 cm and 23 lb, respectively, in all countries. The maximum weight for First and Business class passengers is 32 kilograms.
The cost of checked bags varies by location. You can pre-book your checked baggage allowance online during the flight-booking process for travel on domestic flights within and between the U.S., including Hawaii and Alaska.
For domestic flights, you can add up to 10 baggages to your reservation. Find out how to do so in our guide on adding baggage to your travel booking.
American Airlines Check-In:
Availability for both online and airport check-in may differ according on the American Airlines group airline you are flying with.
Online Check-In:
You may be able to check in for your American Airlines flight by going to the American Airlines Airlines check-in page, depending on which airline is running the flight.
Check-in for your American Airlines flight must be done at the airport if you are unable to do so via the American Airlines website.
From 24 hours to 45 minutes before the planned flight (or 90 minutes for international flights), American Airlines customers can check in online.
Classes for American Airlines Cabins:
Depending on the operator and aircraft, there are two class options: First Class and Economy (Main Cabin). Depending on the aircraft, not all regional flights offer first class. The 'Main class Extra' upgrade option, which is in the Economy class but offers more space, is also available on some routes.
Class Economy:
On the majority of American Airlines flights, economy is the only cabin class; first is available on a few trips.
First Class:
On a limited number of flights, American Airlines provides First Class.
